Summary

We were honored to help with the renovation at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, a historic landmark in Spokane. The project focused on replacing the deteriorated 117‑year‑old staircase and concrete landing, addressing safety concerns while honoring the cathedral’s architectural legacy.

CR Concrete used advanced techniques to build a foam‑formed staircase topped with high‑performance concrete, allowing for a precise, custom fit that matched the cathedral’s original design intent. The new steps were crafted with a custom aggressive exposed sand wash finish and accented with reflective glass aggregate, giving the concrete a subtle shimmer that complements the historic granite and glimmers at night under lighting. This design choice helped evoke the original granite aesthetic while creating a distinctive, modern surface tailored to the site.

To enhance year‑round safety and reduce maintenance for the parish, the stairs and concrete landing were also outfitted with integrated heating, ensuring snow and ice melt efficiently in cold weather, an important functional upgrade embraced by the cathedral community.
